"Evil spirits" reportedly possessed five distressed workers at the Philippine consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia over the weekend, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau reported.
Correspondent Charles Tabbu identified one of the victims as 26-year-old Marissa Reymundo of Valenzuela City. Members of different religious sects scrambled to drive the "bad spirit" away from her.
After she was revived, Reymundo talked about a spirit trying to woo her.
Witnesses said the possessed workers were uncontrollable and violent. They had to be bound to prevent injuries to themselves and to others.
Some of the possessed ran to a "balite" tree outside the consulate after they escaped from restraints.
Officials of the consulate said paranormal experiences have been occurring at the building since 2004.
Some of the distressed workers who have sought shelter at the consulate are already afraid to sleep in the building.
Forty-five Filipino workers are temporarily seeking shelter at the consulate. Most of them were victims of maltreatment by former employers.
Consulate officials are arranging for the repatriation of the workers after doctors denied them treatment.
Officials are also studying the possibility of tapping a psychiatrist to help explain the incidents.
