At least 10 armed men robbed the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) main office in Pasay City late Monday night, carting away an undetermined amount of cash.
Thief and Robbery section Joey Cemclora said that the unidentified armed men who were reportedly wearing police uniforms and brandishing high-powered firearms robbed around 9:30 pm inside the LRTA main office at Aurora, Tramo.
Cemclora said the suspects arrived on board an AUV with red plate at LRTA and managed to gain entry into the compound by posing as policemen.
Security guard Lino Garcia said that when he asked the suspects what brought them to the area, the gunmen told him they were members of a police bomb squad and they were called to check a bomb threat inside the LRTA compound.
Once inside, the suspects disarmed the guards of their service firearms and proceeded to divest about 20 LRT employees of cash and other valuables after finding the vault empty.
But the LRTA management, through its spokesperson Maria Kristina Cassion, clarified that the robbers failed to get anything except the personal money and valuables of around 20 employees.
"Nothing was taken from the LRTA... this is a police matter so we are leaving the investigation to the police authorities," Cassion said, as she assured that the incident would not, in any way, hamper the operations of the LRT. - PNA
