LP senators slam unannounced burial of Marcos at LNMB
By Azer N. Parrocha

MANILA, Nov. 18 (PNA) -- Senators belonging to the Liberal Party (LP) slammed on Friday the unannounced and hasty burial of the remains of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino IV, nephew of the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., described the burial a “sinister move.”

“This is such a sinister move, to bury former President Marcos as secretly and quickly as possible. The manner by which he was buried speaks for itself,” Aquino said.

He said that the administration remained “deaf” to the calls of many Filipinos who demanded justice for the abuses during the Marcos' martial law regime.

Senator and acting LP President Francis Pangilinan said that Marcos being buried at the LNMB did not mean that he would “remain” buried there.

He said that while there were people who stood up against the abuses of the dictatorship, they would fight to have Marcos’ remains transferred.

“They may have won this battle but the war is far from over. If he is buried today, we will work tirelessly to undo this monumental injustice inflicted upon the tens of thousands of victims and upon the nation,” Pangilinan said.

Senate President Pro-Tempore Franklin Drilon compared the Marcos burial to what he described as “stealthy and hurried manner” as “reminiscent of the dark days of Martial Law.”

“The atrocities perpetrated during Martial Law succeeded because the citizenry was kept in the dark. Marcos betrayed the country for decades; we should not allow him to continue to do so up to this day,” Drilon said.

He said that Marcos’ burial was “anything but noble and caught the people off-guard “like a thief in the night.”

Senator Leila de Lima said that even if Marcos was buried in secret, there was no way to hide the “atrocities” during Martial Law.

”They cannot hide the truth from Filipinos. History will be the judge,” De Lima said.

Senator Risa Hontiveros called Marcos “a thief until the very end.”

"Until the end, Marcos is a thief. His fake hero's burial was a stolen moment. However, he will never steal the truth behind our history,” Hontiveros added.

As this story was being written, both pro- and anti-Marcos groups were holding protest rallies outside the hero’s cemetery.

Media members were not allowed to enter the vicinity.

On Nov. 8, the Supreme Court dismissed all petitions against the burial of the late dictator at the hero’s cemetery. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
