BACOLOD CITY, Aug 10 -- The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental released on Thursday the amount of PHP20 million to the Municipality of Hinobaan for the acquisition of a resettlement site.
The check was turned over by Governor Alfredo MaraƱon Jr. to Mayor Ernesto Estrao in rites witnessed by other municipal officials at the Provincial Capitol.
The beneficiaries of the relocation area are the households to be affected by the establishment of the Southern Negros Industrial Estate in Barangay Bacuyangan, where Japanese firm Tsuneishi Heavy Industries Inc. has proposed to set up a ship recycling facility.
Estrao said the municipal government intends to purchase a 14-hectare property amounting to PHP14.3 million with a development cost of PHP5.6 million.
Each affected family will receive a 200-square meter lot.
Last month, the Provincial Board approved an amended ordinance creating the Negros Occidental Provincial Industrial Estate Office to supervise the Southern Negros Industrial Estate and cater to locators planning to invest in the southern part of the province.
The Negros Occidental Provincial Industrial Estate Office will be composed of a department head, assistant department head and project engineers, among other personnel.
The personnel to be assigned are existing employees of the provincial government, who will be appointed to assume the various positions. (PNA)
