LGUs urged to have local economic and investment promotion officer
ILOILO CITY, July 1 (PNA) -- To better market their locality, local government units (LGUs) have been encouraged to create a plantilla position for local economic and investment promotion officer.
“The EDC (Economic Development Committee) realized that the reason why there is no concerted effort at the LGU level is because there is no investment and promotion officer to speak of,†said regional director Ro-Ann Bacal of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).
Bacal said that LGUs must continue to “undertake promotional activities to attract more investors and tourists in their areas.â€
Once created the officers will undergo training with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on how to better sell their LGUs, she added.
Bacal said that they looked forward to see the creation of the position within the year although it’s still up to LGUs to decide because it needs an approval from their respective sanggunian.
She added that they hoped to see cities of Western Visayas complying with the request.
The creation of the position was approved during the June 19 quarterly meeting of the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Antique.
The RDC, meantime will also be creating an investment promotion special committee that will look into the promotion of Western Visayas. (PNA)
