Eastern Visayans abhor pro-impeachment solons' "dishonorable" actuations
Tacloban City (31 August 2005) -- "They are dishonorables", Ms. Analiza Yu, who is a municipal councilor and president of the Leyte Association of Travel, Tours, Transport and Gasoline Dealers, uttered in exasperation.

This is just one of the reactions the actuations of the opposition legislators during the impeachment hearing yesterday, solicited from the leaders and people of Eastern Visayas.

Governor Evardone of Eastern Samar who is the spokesperson of the League of Governors harangued that the walking out of the pro impeachment opposition congressmen, was a part of a grand design in their futile campaign to unseat President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the hope that they can whip up the people to rise up against her.

Gov. Evardone, however, believe that the opposition will surely fail not only beause they don't have the evidence and the numbers but more importantly, because the people are already tired of too much politics.

"The people need a break," Gov. Evardone said further. " They need food on their tables, jobs, electricity, water and education. These they will not get by focusing on the antics of the opposition solons."

Congresswoman Cari of the 5th district of Leyte exclaimed that the opposition congressmen who walked out, some of them throwing their papers as they do so, only emphasized and dramatized their defeat. The walk out is just a shield because they know very well that aside from lacking in numbers, their impeachment complaint lacks form and substance.

The opposition congressmen do not believe in the democracy they are preaching, a former municipal councilor, radio commentator and a well-known political analyst said.

According to him, they have forgotten that in any democratic set up anywhere in the world, the rule of the majority prevails.

A Leyteño who is holding a high position in government felt that the walk out of the pro impeachment solons is too bad because they are not giving the people a good example of an orderly proceedings. "He who gets irritated is a loser", he said. Even if we are a democratic country where everyone is free to do as he pleases, the government official said that this is as long as it is not sanctioned by existing laws. In a proceeding like that of yesterday, the committee members are governed by certain parliamentary rules. What will happen is all the proceedings end up in a walk out when what one wants is not granted?

A very bad example, a veteran educator in a well known university in Tacloban expressed in dismay. She said that the "walk-out" solons must be answerable to the people. They were placed there to represent their constituents. Yet their actuations hardly express the sentiments of the people they have vowed to serve.

Even a public school student couldn't help but opine that what the solons did was conduct unbecoming. They seemed to have forgotten that they are seen by all people in national television. They are not giving good example to the Filipino youth.

The justice committee for weeks have been debating on the impeachment case filed against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The people are tired of political bickering and chaos. They just want to live in peace and go on solving the problems of their daily living. They would rather that the solons proceed with their real task making legislations such as those on energy conservation to cushion the effects of the looming energy crisis, those on charter change and the pre-need in education.

When every sector of the Filipino community ceases their silence and start to express their opinions, when all that is elicited from the even the simple people are negative reactions, it is time for the pro impeachment congressmen to stop and listen. (PIA-8)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
