LAOAG CITY -- The city government of Laoag is currently looking for a new site for the expansion of its sanitary landfill.
This came after the proposed expansion site in Barangay 54-A failed to meet the environmental requirements.
The Laoag City Assessor’s Office has been tasked to look for a new landfill area.
Engr. Ruben Domingo, Laoag City Assessor, said they are still waiting for the results of the analysis conducted by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau on soil samples taken from Barangay Salet-Bulangon, one of the proposed expansion areas.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has ordered the closure of all controlled dumpsites in the country, prompting the need to convert Laoag’s controlled dumpsite into a sanitary landfill.
Mayor Chevylle Fariñas recognized the need to establish a sanitary landfill as the city produces 50 tons of garbage daily. (PNA
