LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 8 — Thousands of Bicolanos are all set to participate in the historic landmark lantern lighting, marking the golden founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Tuesday.

Louisa Pastor, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) regional director, said for Region 5, there will be five sites --- Battle of Legazpi Shrine at Port District, Legazpi City; DILG Regional Office building; Albay provincial capitol grounds; Iriga City; and Naga City.

All local and national government offices are enjoined to support these activities by joining in the lighting of the lanterns, Pastor added.
Marlon Loterte, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) assistant regional director, said the lighting of lantern ceremony in Legazpi City is set to start at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.
There will be a short program in the Battle of Legazpi Shrine where Magayon dancers will participate and entertain the crowd with a dance performance, Loterte added.

Meanwhile, preparations are now ongoing to welcome the delegates and participants of the ASEAN meetings to be held in Albay province.
“The Albay will be hosting the ASEAN ministerial meeting on August 21-25 at in Misisbis Bay Resorts in Bacacay,” Loterte said.
At present, ASEAN is the world’s seventh largest market, the third largest labor force, and has been projected to become the fourth largest economic bloc by 2030.
