PINEAPPLE SECTOR TO CREATE ADDITIONAL 4,000 POTENTIAL JOBS.
Dole Philippines President and COO David DeLorenzo (center left) recently (8 February) discussed the company’s growth and investment plan in the country’s pineapple sector to Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez. Dole Philippines forecasted growth production of 1 million tons of pineapples, creating 4,000 additional jobs in this sector in Mindanao by 2019. Such forecast challenges DTI to further initiatives to help local growers attain greater efficiency to expand market opportunities, including the move to reduce tariff rates in Japan and Korea under the Philippine-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement and the ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement. DTI also highlighted that the Philippines is in the process of strengthening trade relations with Russia and the European Union as potential importers of tropical fruits. Joining the meeting were DTI Undersecretaries Rowel Barba (3rd from L) and Ceferino Rodolfo (3rd from R), DTI Assistant Secretary Rafaelita Aldaba (leftmost) and Agnes Perpetua Legaspi (2nd from L), Dole-Stanfilco General Manager Oscar Garcia (2nd from R) and its Corporate Affairs Director Atty. Melquiades Hernandez III (rightmost). END
