BACOLOD CITY, Aug. 7 – To mark the 50th Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations this week, officials and employees of Victorias City, Negros Occidental wore ASEAN-inspired attires on Monday and performed songs and dances during a program held at the city public plaza.
They formed 10 groups, representing each ASEAN-member states, for various competitions.
The talent contest for both male and female categories will be held on Tuesday, the foundation day of ASEAN, at Don Alejandro Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center.
The candidates, wearing costumes, will give a performance relevant to the the ASEAN country they represent.
Aside from the Philippines, other ASEAN member-states include Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The City Communication and Information Office said the activity is spearheaded by the Victorias City Human Resource Office in compliance with Memorandum No. 2016-069 of the Office of the Mayor and Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 6-2016 on “Awareness Campaign in Support of ASEAN Community 2015 and the Philippines’ Chairmanship of ASEAN 2017.”
In Bacolod City, the Philippine Information Agency also conducted a briefing for information officers and “Kumpas Barangay” in Barangay Granada on August 4 to heighten awareness and appreciation for the ASEAN.
The ASEAN information campaign is a government program aimed to reach out to the masses to bring the message of economic prosperity, peace and unity in the region.
On Tuesday, the Grand Commemorative Celebration of ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary will be highlighted by a Parade and Simultaneous Lighting of ASEAN Landmark at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, and the Bonifacio Global Center in Taguig City.
About 1,700 ASEAN foreign ministers and their spouses, senior officials and delegates are expected to participate.(Nanette L. Guadalquiver/PNA)
