In my opinion, the 800 million Pesos can be better used to allow the recruitment and hiring of more nurses and doctors in the severely undermanned hospitals in the Philippines. Instead of buying condoms, they should buy soaps, tissue papers, and hire janitors that can efficiently clean the government hospitals in the Philippines.
When I was in Bohol, I visited a government hospital and even the private owned hospitals. The conditions of the bathrooms are disgusting.
And as a medical intern, i had complained to the attending doctors of this situation. There was no soap, nothing, besides water that filled to the brim. This is the setting of a medical catastrophe and the spread of MRSA , and VRSA (methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus; vancomycin ressistant staphylococcus aureus).
I visted Gallares, Ramiro and Tagbilaran Community.
A hospital that has no good cleaning facility, here in the United States, would be closed immediately for fear of transmitting disease.
It is unbelievable; the medical situation in the Philippines!
