Twelve persons were injured from firecracker blasts at the height of the New Year celebration in Bataan even as law enforcers confiscated voluminous illegal pyrotechnics in the province.
Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, said those who sustained firecracker injuries include four from Mariveles, five from Balanga and three from Samal.
Four of the victims were rushed to the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga City. They were Maximo Robles, 38, of Barangay Diwa, Pilar town; Mary Joy Lopez, 16, of Barrio Kampo, Balanga City; Erlito Aguilar, 16, of Barangay Capunitan, Orion; and Maria Flores, 32.
Meanwhile, Supt. Arnel Amor Libed, Balanga City police chief, said voluminous banned firecrackers were seized Friday afternoon from four suspects who will be charged for violation of the law regulating the sale and manufacture of pyrotechnics.
The firecrackers were seized at the market site in Balanga City from Emerlyn Baltazar and Arnel Salosa that included "Goodbye Philippines," "Pla-pla," "Piccolo," "Great Bawang" and "Five Star."
Sale of these firecrackers is prohibited and punishable under Republic Act No. 7183. - pna
