Index crimes in Pangasinan down by 83% amid quarantine
« on: April 25, 2020, 08:14:27 PM »
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan —The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) recorded 30 index crimes a month after the enforcement of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Based on the PPPO’s data, the number of index crimes in the province from March 15 to April 16 was 83 percent lower than the 176 recorded in the same period last year.

Index crimes are crimes against persons such as murder, homicide, physical injury, and rape; and crimes against property such as robbery, theft, carjacking, and cattle rustling.

“Murder on the given period decreased from 13 last year to two this year, homicide from seven to one, physical injury from 65 last year to eight incidents this year, rape from 28 to three, robbery from 11 to four, theft from 47 to 10, and carnapping of motorcycle from five to two,” based on PPPO’s data.

In a recent radio interview, PPPO director Col. Redrico Maranan said the checkpoints set up within boundaries and the curfew due to the ongoing ECQ have been deterrent to crimes committed in the province.

Meanwhile, the number of non-index crimes or those violations of special laws, such as illegal logging or local ordinances, have also decreased by 51 percent from 934 incidents in the given period last year to 456 in the same period this year. (PNA)
