ILOILO CITY -- Around 1,000 Ilonggos gathered in this city Wednesday to pray for peace in the Philippines.
The “Pasa Lord Prayer Movement,” an interfaith group, introduced a universal prayer which was translated in Hiligaynon. Together, participants recited the prayer that lasted for about a minute at noontime.
The universal prayer seeks God's favor, blessings for leaders, safekeeping of families and grace to live at peace with one another. It also asks for protection from foreign invasion, lawless acts, terrorism and war, as it seeks peace, unity, prosperity and transformation for the nation.
The prayer movement for peace stemmed from the ongoing clashes in Marawi City between the government troops and Maute terrorist group and from the problems besieging the country such as hard drugs, criminality and corruption.
In an interview, "Pasa Lord" co-convenor Niels Patrick Riconalla stressed the need for the Filipino people to pray to help ease the country's problems.
“Filipinos must be united in prayer for our country regardless of their religious affiliation,” he said.
Riconalla encouraged all the Ilonggos to make “praying for the country” a habit especially every noon.
The "Pasa Lord Prayer Movement" was launched last July to encourage Filipinos to pray for peace in the country.
The participants composed of city and village officials, religious sector, and academe, among others, were joined by the movement’s lead convenor and founder Lourdes Pimentel. (PNA)
