Ilonggo Senator Franklin Drilon pledged to extend financial assistance to the rehabilitation of Iloilo City’s terminal and central public markets.
Mabilog said Drilon wants convenient public markets for the Ilonggos, as he personally saw some of the public markets in this city already dilapidated and overcrowded, during his recent visit here.
The mayor added that the rehabilitation of terminal public market may start by the middle of this year or upon the transfer of the Iloilo City Hall to its new office in Plaza Libertad.
Mabilog said while rehabilitation is ongoing, some vendors may be temporarily housed at the Central market until the repair is finished.
Upon the completion of the terminal public market, the central public market will be the next target for repair.
Mabilog said some ambulant vendors from central market will be relocated to the terminal market until the project is finished.
He added that Drilon ordered his staff Rex Drilon to look for investors to lease some spaces at the public markets for additional income of the city government. (PNA)
