ILOILO CITY, Aug 8 -- Officials and employees of the municipality of Lambunao in Iloilo joined the entire country in celebrating the ASEAN Week by wearing attires inspired by costumes of the member-countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Jennifer Osorio, tourism officer of the municipality, on Tuesday said they will be wearing ASEAN-inspired dresses every first Monday of the starting on August 7 and will be observed until end of the year.
Mayor Jason Gonzales on Monday led the hoisting of the ASEAN flags, sharing of information about ASEAN, and the singing of the ASEAN theme.
Members of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) were decked in Vietnam attire; Singapore-inspired costumes for the mayor’s office, human resources and municipal disaster risk reduction and management office; Brunei for environment and natural resources office and engineering; Malaysia's national dress for accounting, civil registrar and population offices; Philippines for budget and health offices; and Thailand for the health office.
Moreover, Laos-inspired costume for employees of the general services and social welfare offices; Myanmar for assessor, tourism, information, garments and planning; Indonesia for the agriculture office, and Cambodia for market, slaughterhouse, cattle, motorpool, solid waste and cemetery.
The ASEAN marked its 50th founding anniversary on Tuesday. The regional bloc was formed following the signing of the ASEAN Declaration in Bangkok, Thailand on August 8, 1967. (PNA)
