ILOILO CITY -- The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) gathered more than 800 names of alleged drug dependents after “Tokhang Reboot” was launched in Iloilo province on August 18.
In an interview Tuesday, IPPO spokesperson Chief Inspector Aaron Palomo said that these names are a combination of users and pushers of hard drugs that were identified by local residents.
Palomo emphasized that the names are yet to be validated. Once the names are validated, they will be called to surrender just like what was done during the “Oplan Tokhang” and Oplan Double Barrel.
Tokhang Reboot was launched during the 116th Police Service Anniversary held at Camp Delgado here, August 14, as part of the relentless campaign against hard drugs of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Western Visayas.
According to Palomo, different individuals were urged to write down names of drug dependents they know in their area. These were put in drop boxes available in their respective barangay halls and the municipal police stations of their town.
Palomo cited the cooperation of the public in Tokhang Reboot. He further urged them to continue supporting the initiative by providing names of drug dependents they know so they could take action to them.
Previously, IPPO coordinated with some stakeholders for the rehabilitation of the drug surrenderers who will yield under the Tokhang Reboot.
They have also coordinated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development for sustainable livelihood projects they could provide to encourage drug surrenderers to stay away from hard drugs.
Also, other stakeholders were tapped for programs and projects for drug surrenderers.
Palomo assured that drug dependents who will surrender during the Tokhang Reboot will be given a chance to reform and make a living through livelihood programs and other projects.
He also assured to strengthen their campaign against hard drugs, especially now that President Rodrigo Duterte appreciated their efforts and accomplishments. Previously, the President tagged Iloilo as “shabulized” and “bedrock of illegal drugs.” (PNA)
