ILOILO CITY -- Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog on Tuesday was thankful President Rodrigo Duterte has recognized the success of the anti-drug initiatives of the city government.
He also extended the same appreciation to concerned law enforcement agencies, such as the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
He also thanked the media for highlighting what is being done in Iloilo City to address the drug menace.
“The city government assures continued support to logistical and financial needs and other resources needed for the campaign against illegal drugs,” he said.
Last year, President Duterte labeled Iloilo as “shabulized”. This year, the President also described Iloilo as a "hotbed” of illegal drugs.
In a press conference on Monday, the President cited that illegal drugs have almost diminished in Iloilo.
However, Mabilog said despite Duterte's pronouncement, there remains a “continued challenge to strengthen efforts” in order to reach out to all drug users and pushers in Iloilo.
“I continue to ask everyone in Iloilo to participate, cooperate and show extra effort in addressing illegal drugs in the city. I also ask members of the media to report what is being undertaken,” he said.
Iloilo City has 3,180 drug surrenderers during the conduct of Oplan Double Barrel and Double Barrel Reloaded. Of the surrenderers, 550 have graduated from the camp-based rehabilitation of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) and 408 from the city government’s Crossroads rehabilitation.
They intend to reach out to more drug personalities and urge them to surrender and avail of rehab programs under the Oplan Reboot that was launched last week. (PNA)
