ILOILO CITY – With the current coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) threat, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) has activated the “bayanihan” system through kiosks that encourage community sharing.
On Tuesday, the IPPO has launched 47 “bayanihan kiosks” that are open for sharing of rice and goods for all Ilonggos.
Col. Paul Kenneth Lucas, IPPO director, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that people who have excess rice, food items, and even alcohol, can leave their donations at the kiosks and those who need them can get for free.
“Our concept was made after we saw that there a lot of donations coming to our front-liners. We decided to put the donations in the kiosks so that people who need them can access it for free,” he said.
The bayanihan kiosk located in Santa Barbara town has listed 500 beneficiaries on Tuesday morning.
To avoid crowding, Lucas said not all 500 individuals were catered and were asked to come back on Wednesday.
Carrying the slogan "Bulig Mo, Kabuhi Ko” (“Your Help, My Life”), the IPPO director said the kiosks are open to all regardless of social status and place of residence.
An individual can avail of a maximum of two kilograms of goods daily while the IPPO does not limit the beneficiaries’ visit per week.
“The kiosks welcome everyone. If you are not from Iloilo province and you happen to pass by the kiosk, you are welcome to avail of the goods,” he said.
The IPPO bayanihan kiosks are located either at the municipal hall, municipal police station or at a quarantine control point.
Lucas appeals to the Ilonggos to share their extra rice, noodles, canned goods, dried fish, condiments, and even livestock to the kiosks.
He also reminded those who will be availing at the kiosks to bring their quarantine pass, wear masks, and practice social distancing to avoid the spread of the disease. (PNA)
