Antique's provincial labor office holds safety awareness training for firecracker manufacturers
SAN JOSE de BUENAVISTA, Antique, Dec. 17 (PNA) -- Antique’s provincial labor office said it has carried out the work stoppage order for all establishments that manufacture and sell pyrotechnics and firecrackers when it gathered 66 entrepreneurs from the towns of San Jose, Hamtic and Patnongon for a Safety Awareness Training.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)–Antique is only performing its role to assist these manufacturers, as mandated by Rule 1012.02 of the Occupational Safety and Health Standards in relation to Article 168 of the Labor Code, its provincial director, Lorraine Villegas, said in an interview Friday.
â€This work stoppage order was issued because of the many incidents from October to November of this year when explosions in fireworks shops killed some persons and injured many others, and the DOLE national office is just preparing to lessen the fireworks incidents, knowing that this business increases its production during the holiday season,†said Villegas.
She described the Safety Awareness Training that was attended by manufacturers and sellers of pyrotechnics and firecrackers, as well as representatives of local government units, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) as a great help.
Villegas said her office requires these manufacturers and sellers to submit a PNP certificate, a BFP clearance and a certificate proving that they attended the DOLE orientation.
“We are holding this training for free and we are also inspecting factories if they are compliant with the agencies’ standards relative to the General Labor Standards,†she added. (PNA)
