The rebel allegedly sustained his injury when an erosion occurred at the Gaang Gold Mining in Balbalan town, prompting him to surrender.
Police Chief Superintendent Elmo Francis Sarona, PROCOR regional director, said Joseph Lumaday Masadao also known as "Ronald", 53, single, resident of Sitio Ubel, Gawaan, Balbalan, Kalinga sought refuge from barangay officials.
Convinced by the village leaders, Masadao voluntarily surrendered to receive medical treatment for his injuries.

He was immediately brought to Western Kalinga District Hospital for medical treatment and later transferred to Kalinga Provincial Hospital in Tabuk City for further medical attention.
Sarona said Masadao claims to be a member of the Milisyang Bayan (MB) under the command of Marcial Dagay that operates in Kalinga and nearby provinces.
The rebel returnee is now under the protection of the operating troops for his security and fast facilitation of benefits and financial assistance in order for him to start a new life.
Sarona said Masadao is just one among the many former rebels who opted to embrace the government, lay down their arms and give up their armed struggle to be with their families and to reform their lives together with the community.
The police general said the continued surrender of NPA rebels is a manifestation of successful effort of the government's counter insurgency which includes convincing outlaws to return to the fold of the law. (PNA)
