SOUTH UPI, Maguindanao -- Police have launched a massive manhunt Wednesday against two men who shot dead a village chief here.
Senior Supt. Agustin Tello, Maguindanao police provincial director, said members of South Upi municipal police station have been following up a lead after informants provided investigators with the gunmen’s physical description.
Citing reports from South Upi police, Tello identified the victim as Mamayog Datuwata, 56, chair of Barangay Lamud.
Datuwata was walking alone toward the barangay hall at sitio Sta. Fe when two men riding in tandem on a motorbike passed by. One of the suspects opened fire on the village official, hitting him at the back of his head.
He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body. He died on the spot.
Tello said several witnesses came forward and offered information that could eventually lead to the suspects’ arrest.
Tello said the attack against Datuwata, a Maguindanao Muslim, could be politically motivated or due to “rido” (family feud) involving his family and another clan in South Upi.(PNA)
