The government-owned Region 1 Medical Center is contemplating filing a case against a television station whose program branded the hospital as "dugyot", a reference to being in state of unkempt or dirty condition.
Calling a press conference on Monday, Dr. Roland Mejia, R1MC chief, said the word "dugyot" is very destructive to the image of the hospital "because it is not true".
R1MC is a tertiary level four hospital and also the only training and teaching hospital in Pangasinan.
Mejia said the term "dugyot" is very unacceptable because the video footage presented only one small plastic bag on top of a garbage can that may have been deliberately placed by the one who took the video to embarrass the hospital.
All else presented, like the sparkling floor, did not show any unkempt state that was why the use of word "dugyot" as a title of the report is improper and showed the mark of unprofessional conduct, said Mejia.
At the same time, he said, the video footage presented only one corner of the hospital which is just only about 10 per cent of the three-hectare hospital
Mejia said a staff member of the program "Bitag" indeed called up to get his comment just two hours before the airing of the show.
But he said his training dictates that he cannot make a comment on a video he has not seen yet.
He said many of those who saw the video, especially those who were confined at R1MC, were hurt because the reference to the word "dugyot" on the hospital is also not acceptable to them.
"The hospital attorney is now reviewing the video very well and we are contemplating on filing (a case) against (those responsible for the report) because sinisiraan nila ang pangalan ng Region 1 Medical Ceter," he said.
He said R1MC is the only hospital in Pangasinan which is where the poor people of Pangasinan are going when they get sick.
Tapos sinisiraan nila ng ganito. Hindi puede ito," he added.
Mejia said the program also reported that patients being operated on at the corridor is not true because R1MC has a lot of operating rooms.
Maybe, he said, the one who took the video had footage of nurses and doctors dressing the wounds of patients. - pna
