Gordon welcomes Pres. Duterte’s SSS pension hike decision

MANILA, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- Sen. Richard “Dick” Gordon on Wednesday lauded the decision of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to approve the increase of PHP1,000 in the monthly pension of all pensioners under the Social Security System (SSS).

Gordon, chair of the Senate Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises, proposed the resolution for the SSS pension increase in the Senate. It was approved last December.

The release of the pension would come in two tranches -- the initial PHP1,000-increase this month will be the first tranche while the additional PHP1,000 in 2022 or earlier will be the second tranche, he said.

“I hail the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to approve the PHP2,000 increase in the monthly pension received by pensioners of the Social Security System (SSS) in two tranches,” Gordon said in a statement.

Gordon said that it is “very much welcomed” by the 2.18 million pensioners.

The senator meanwhile vowed to continue to provide appropriate legislation necessary to strengthen the SSS and to assist it in preserving the sustainability and life of its funds.

“It is our duty in the Senate to provide laws that would improve our people’s lives,” Gordon said.

SSS previously mentioned releasing the PHP2,000 pension increase in two tranches to avoid putting the SSS funds at risk. SSS Chairman Dean Amado Valdez earlier cautioned that immediately implementing the full PHP2,000 pension increase would threaten the SSS funds. The PHP1,000 initial pension increase he said, “is more doable.” (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
