Hundreds of Novo Vizcayanos are expected to flock to the Bangan Hill National Park in Barangay Magsaysay here during the observance of the Lenten Season.

During the Lenten Season from April 5 to 8, the park which has three huge crosses, serves as a venue for the yearly procession in remembering the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Police Senior Supt. Valfrie Tabian, police provincial director said they have laid down the security detail of the yearly activity as it is being participated in by hundreds of devotees in Nueva Vizcaya and in Quirino province.

“We have already mapped out a plan to secure the smooth flow of the procession and the crowd of devotees that will be expected to join the observance,” Tabian said.

Bishop Ramon Villena, head of the clergy here and in Quirino province, said the procession will start from the St. Dominic Church in Bayombong town on April 6 going to the provincial capitol and toward Bangan Hill in barangay Magsaysay.

He said the reading of the seven last words will be done at the St. Dominic Church while the crucifixion of Jesus Christ will be conducted at the Bangan Hill.

“We are encouraging our faithful to participate in this very important gathering to renew our faith in the Almighty. Let this Lenten observance bring peace in each one of us,” he said.

Bangan Hill, Nueva Vizcaya’s structural and environmental version of Golgotha or Calvary, the site of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion outside Jerusalem, started its history as an important venue during the observance of the Lenten Season in 2005.

Bangan Hill has been declared a national park, called as the Bangan Hill National Park, on March 29, 1995 through Republic Act No. 7954.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
