Chatto again asks DOE to intervene
in resolving the gap in fuel prices
Bohol Rep. Edgar Chatto has strongly raised again in Congress the gap in fuel prices in Bohol, Cebu and other areas in the country.
He sought anew the intervention of the Department of Energy during the congressional hearing of the DOE budget at the House of Representatives this week.
"This is an unfinished business or issue," Chatto said.
The First District solon recalled that while he was governor, there were recommendations from DOE and other energy agencies to work on enhancing competition.
Construction of depots would be undertaken, it was also recommended.
But when new players are already in the maket, the fuel cost gap remain unresolved.
Chatto suggested that deeper review of other factors must be done by the DOE.
Local government units are most often blamed for national agency mandates like price setting, which is beyond LGU control.
Congressmen from Baguio and other areas in the country raised similar issues during the DOE budget hearing.(Ven Rebo Arigo)
