To Avoid Matnog!

Alternate Routes to Manila
From Mindanao via Panay
With the worsening gridlock at the Matnog Port in Sorsogon, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) is recommending an alternate route for truckers and travelers from Mindanao to Luzon.
The jump-off site is the Port of Dapitan City which is excellently manned by the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Ports Authority where Fast Crafts could cross the Sulu Sea and land in Dumaguete City in less than four hours.
This is the same port used by trucks loaded with fish and marine products from Mindanao to Cebu City where from Negros Oriental, the trucks take another ferry to the western part of Cebu Island onwards to the markets of Cebu City.
From Dumaguete, it will be a 6-hour drive by truck and just 4 hours by car to Bacolod City followed by a 1-hour ferry boat ride to Iloilo.
From Iloilo City, it will be another 6-hour drive to the Port of Caticlan in Aklan where the truckers will have two options.
The less expensive route would be to take another ferry to Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro then drive up to Calapan and cross the channel to Batangas.
The more expensive and convenient option would be to take the 2-Go Vessel which sails overnight from Caticlan to the Port of Batangas.
I have taken this route several times and while there are more ferry boat rides and a bit more expensive, this is a smoother and easier option.
The route also offers travelers who are not in a hurry to see historical and beautiful sites, like the Shrine of Dr. Jose Rizal in Dapitan City and buy "pasalubongs" like "Piaya" and "Organic Muscovado" sugar in Negros.
Seafoods are also aplenty along the route, from Zamboanga del Norte to Iloilo and Aklan.
Try this route. Surely, you will enjoy it.
