A foundation has included Nueva Vizcaya as one of its 40 pilot provinces in the country to undertake various programs, projects and activities designed to eradicate the incidence of malaria in upland villages.
Dr. Edwin Galapon, provincial health officer, said Filipinas Shell Foundation (FSF) has allotted some USD 31 million for its malaria-eradication program in the country.
“This fund will be divided to 40 pilot provinces as recipients of this program. The amount given for each province will depend on their proposed work and financial plan,†Galapon said.
He said that 80 percent of the requirements of the malaria eradication program will be financed through the FSF fund while 20 percent will be funded by the provincial government.
The malaria eradication program which will be implemented by the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Department of Health (DOH), provincial and municipal local governments from 2010 to 2015 aims to reduce the morbidity and mortality of malaria incidence by 70 percent.
The program covers eight municipalities with upland villages in the province such as Diadi, Villaverde, Quezon, Bagabag, Dupax del Norte, Dupax del Sur, Kasibu and Alfonso Castaneda.
Health officials, according to Galapon, met early this week to follow-up the implementation of the malaria eradication program in the province. - pna
