In line with the Bureau of Customs' (BOC) anti-smuggling efforts, the Manila International Container Port (MICP) through the Port's Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) seized on June 09, 2021, 3 luxury vehicles in a foiled smuggling attempt.
Based on information gathered, a Pre-Lodgement Control Order (PLCO) was issued by MICP's District Collector Romeo Allan R. Rosales against the shipment which consigned to ADFINEST Marketing Corp. The PLCO led to the 100% examination of the container which revealed (3) vehicles namely (1) Brand New Land Cruiser, (1) 2016 Nissan GTR and (1) 2020 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The examination was witnessed by members of the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) and Formal Entry Division (FED).
A Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) was issued on the shipment which was estimated to have a value of Php 16 Million. Investigation and the possible filing of charges are underway for possible violation of Section 1400 in relation to Section 1113 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) as well as the lack of Authority to Import from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The series of apprehensions was the result of MICP's COPLAN TSEKOT which aims to prevent the illegal importation of vehicles into the country. Through the directive of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, MICP remains committed in implementing anti-smuggling and border security efforts.
