About 60,000 Dabawenyos from 90 barangays in this city have availed of the
food-for-work program of the city government over a year-and-a-half of its implementation.
Davao City has a total of 182 barangays, distributed to three legislative districts and 11 administrative districts.
City Hall consultant Danilo Dayanghirang said the food-for-work program of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is a continuing project aimed at helping the poor and at the same time help clean the city of garbage.
He said the city has already spent about P2.5 million for the project.
Under the program, Dayanghirang said 50 indigent persons are tasked to clean the city’s coastal areas while another set of 50 persons is assigned to clean the city’s drainage facilities.
Each identified indigent beneficiary is given P150 a month worth of food as payment for services, he said.
“The project provides people’s empowerment in the barangays and establishes a shift of behavior among barangay folks in relation to the proper waste disposal and cleanliness,†Dayanghirang said.
He said the program will continue under the administration of Duterte-Carpio as it helps the poor families and at the same time minimizes flooding in the city.
