Filipino delivery app eyes expansion in PHL, Singapore

MANILA, March 18 (PNA) -- Mober, a home-grown web and mobile platform for delivery of bulky items, targets to strengthen its presence within and outside the Philippines.

Mober Founder and CEO Dennis Ng said the tech firm was currently seeking at least USD1.0 million worth of funding to facilitate its expansion in Cebu, Davao, and Singapore, as well as other Asian markets like Hong Kong.

Ng added that the investor would get 10 percent of the company’s equity for every USD1.0 million worth of investment.

He mentioned that Mober will open its operation in Cebu next month, while eyeing to expand in Davao and Singapore within the year.

Mober app is a logistics solution for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and individuals who want same-day delivery of their bulky items like appliances, baggage, agricultural products, and even pets that cannot be catered by other transportation apps.

Ng added that the company would like to see SMEs in agriculture to use the app to handle the transport of their goods such as fruits, vegetables, poultry, and fish products.

“In the Philippines, the logistics here is not well-established,” he said.

“Because of this, SMEs are forced to buy delivery vans which cost around Php 600,000 while maintaining salary for drivers, gasoline, among others,” the Mober chief added.

Ng noted that many of these vans become underutilized as they were used once or twice a day for delivery.

For SMEs who cannot afford to buy delivery vans, they opt to rent transportation services which costs at an average of Php 2,500 per day within Metro Manila.

“They are paying the same rental rate whether they use the van whole day or for one delivery trip only,” Ng said.

In Mober, SMEs will be paying the service per trip which cost at a minimum rate of Php 500 for a five-kilometer trip and additional of Php 25 per kilometer.

Mober currently operates within Metro Manila and nearby provinces like Cavite, Rizal, and Bulacan.

Aside from increasing its bookings, Ng said the company wanted to invite van owners to cater their services through Mober.

He mentioned that Mober implements no joining fee for interested van owners.

The company only gets 20 percent commission for every booking.

Mober is also looking at giving 20 percent of its equity to their registered and accredited drivers in the future.

In 2016, Mober had 6,842 bookings for its 100 vans. Revenue last year reached USD160,000.

Ng said Mober eyes for a USD12 million revenue in 2019, with van partners climbing to 3,000. (PNA)
