A Filipina working as a domestic helper in Kuwait was allegedly raped by a Kuwaiti who identified himself as a policeman, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau reported Monday.

"Carmen" (not her real name), said she was raped by a man who identified himself as a policeman on her way to the Philippine Embassy after escaping from her employer, correspondent Maxxy Santiago reported.

Carmen recounted that in the evening of January 8, a Kuwaiti man in disdasha (native long garment) who identified himself as a policeman stopped the cab she was riding in and asked her to step out. The woman was on her way to the Philippine embassy after leaving her employerâ€™s house in Salma district.

The woman said the attacker hurled her in the front seat of his SUV. He drove around until he parked in an isolated area and raped Carmen in the backseat of the vehicle.

The victim was able to get the car's plate number and upon reaching the embassy, she reported the incident to Assistance to Nationals Unit head Mustapha Bayanan, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The suspect is now detained at the Salwa Police Station.

Philippine Ambassador Ricardo Endaya has already assigned a Kuwaiti lawyer, Khalil Al-Qattan, to handle Carmen's case.

Carmen is currently housed at the Filipino Workers Resource Center.

The victim, 29 years old, married, with three children and a native of Davao del Norte, arrived in Kuwait in October 2007.
