The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 has sought the assistance of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in holding an information campaign about counterfeit bills.
PRO 7 Director Lani-o Nerez said this will be done in the midst of the upcoming May polls, where counterfeit bills are expected to proliferate.
He said it has been the police observation that circulation of counterfeit bills is rampant during election. Some of these are reportedly used to buy votes.
Nerez said the PRO 7 will come up with a public advisory, warning people to be vigilant and reminding them to immediately report to police if they fall victim to this kind of modus.
Part of the advisory will include how to detect a genuine bill from a fake one.
Nerez said common features of fake bill include inferior color, smooth paper and lack of security fibers. Genuine bills are rough and crispy. - PNA
