Fair weather expected as Metro conducts 'shake drill' Thursday

MANILA - Except Mindanao, most parts of the country including Metro Manila will continue to experience fair weather with isolated thunderstorms on Thursday, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Denison Estareja said that partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

He added that there is a slim chance of rain as Metro Manila schools, establishments and local governments carry out the metrowide shake drill. However, rains are expected in the afternoon or evening due to thunderstorms.

The drill will cover 16 cities and one town in Metro Manila and to signal the start of the drill the sirens will blare, church bells will ring, and fire alarms will go off.

The drill will start at 10:30 a.m. and last for a full hour, until 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Estareja said most parts of Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains due to the presence of Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

The ITCZ affecting Mindanao, which is the thick clouds coming from the south of Asia, is considered a breeding ground for low-pressure areas (LPAs) or potential cyclones.

He added that no tropical cyclone has seen near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

However, he noted that the weather bureau continues to monitor a low pressure area which is still too far to affect the country.

In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to east will prevail over Luzon and coming from the northeast to northwest over the rest of the country.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. (PNA)

Romans 10:9-10
"If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
