NTC-11 hits P40-M target for 2017
« on: May 11, 2020, 10:00:09 PM »
DAVAO CITY -- The National Telecommunication Commission in Davao Region (NTC) has achieved its P40 million annual target in a quarter away to end 2017.

NTC 1I director Nelson Canete attributed the positive performance of the agency to a more aggressive and renewed service delivery of its mandate.

"We would be earning more with the remaining three months this year," he said.

Canete also reported NTC is on track on their dialogue with local government units and clients operating radio stations, which need government registration.

He said NTC is able to deliver the message that everything must be registered with NTC for its operation to be legitimate.

With very limited manpower, Canete said the dialogue and open fora served as platform to make stakeholders understand their responsibilities set in the rules and regulations on using radio.

"Gone are the days that transactions in NTC are facilitated through fixers because that is not allowed with the new leadership," he said.

"Before only a few transacts with this office but now as early as 8 a.m. clients already come to us,” Canete said.

Canete underscored the changes and slowly but surely “our clients had been educated that registration and other fees are based on what is required by law and that said fees are properly receipted.”

"We are strict on regulating the sectors that we served as well as the officers and employees of NTC 1I," he said.

This month and November, NTC will conduct surprised inspection of taxi operators using radios. Right now, he said these are not regulated and many of those operating the radio communication don't have licenses.

Canete earlier said NTC has three programs: Oplan Malling to check on security guards with handheld radios have permits and they have license to operate; Oplan Window Shopping, to check on stores selling cellular phones and gadgets whether they have the license to sell and units carry an NTC sticker, and Oplan Sita, to check taxi operators/drivers that they have the license to use mobile.

Canete said NTC has strengthened this campaign to improve the implementation of regulations and the consumer protection aspect. (Digna D. Banzon/PNA)
