Undas 2017’ in Palawan ‘generally peaceful’: police
« on: May 22, 2020, 02:49:32 PM »
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan – The celebration of the rain-drenched "Undas 2017" in this city and the rest of Palawan did not record any untoward incident and went “generally peaceful,” according to the city and provincial police offices.

Police Inspector Pearl Lamban-Marzo, spokesperson of the City Police Office (CPO) here, said Thursday morning that except for three sharp instruments voluntarily surrendered by owners at the Old Cemetery, no unfortunate occurrence was reported in six major cemeteries here.

“It was a generally peaceful commemoration of All Saints' Day here and nothing unusual happened except for the three bladed tools yielded to us by their owners, which we also returned when they went home,” she said.

No group violating the liquor ban was also recorded, according to Marzo, showing that the people of this city have high respect for law and order in visiting their dead loved ones.

Police Senior Inspector Ric Ramos, spokesperson of the Palawan Provincial Police Office (PPO), related the same on Thursday morning.

“In the aspect of law and order, Undas 2017 all over Palawan was generally peaceful,” Ramos said.

Marzo and Ramos both informed that “police personnel will remain in detail until 6:00 a.m. of November 3” in city and provincial cemeteries to ensure that peace and security are maintained until the public concludes visiting their loved ones.

Intermittent rains that occurred the whole day of November 1 did not stop residents and families from visiting their loved ones, noted Carmen dela Vergel of the New City Cemetery.

“Residents didn’t mind the rain and continued visiting their dead relatives here. They brought their big umbrellas to keep them safe from the rain; they brought flowers but were unable to light candles,” she said.

Traffic management and control during the day was also convenient, said City Traffic Management Office (CTMO) chief David Martinez.

“We could say that traffic was manageable since we already sent earlier a notice to tell our public to not bring cars anymore. Just ride tricycles so we can keep traffic flowing well yesterday,” Martinez said Thursday morning. (PNA)
