CEBU CITY -- The Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) will conduct the random drug testing of teachers in the municipalities of Cebu Province starting next week.
CPADAO chief Ivy Durano Meca on Thursday said that Cebu Province Schools Division superintendent Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud has given them authority to carry out the drug tests for teaching and non-teaching staff of public schools in the province.
Meca said the drug testing will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines set by the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
Teachers who will be found positive of drug use will be given due process and will have to undergo a six-month rehabilitation program.
The CPADAO will also conduct surprise drug tests in all police stations and units under the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), which has also authorized the local anti-drug agency to carry out the tests on law enforcers.
Meca said the drug testing on policemen is part of the CPPO’s internal cleansing program.
Meanwhile, a teacher of the Alaska-Mambaling Elementary School was ordered by the Department of Education’s (DepED) Cebu City Schools Division to submit a valid explanation on why he refused to undergo the drug test last Tuesday.
Cebu City Schools superintendent Dr. Bianito Dagatan said the teacher should come up with a valid reason for refusing the drug test, otherwise he will be suspended or possibly dismissed for gross insubordination. (PNA)
