ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat, Aug. 9 -- A drug suspect was killed after he tried, but failed, to set off a hand grenade on police officers during anti-drug operation in Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Senior Supt. Raul Supiter, Sultan Kudarat police director, said Wednesday the suspect, Gilbert Golingay, was inside his home at Sitio Lawa, Barangay Saripinang when the police, armed with search warrant, arrived.

Supiter said the police were to implement search warrant for illegal drugs and gun possession against Golingay, a farmer.

But Golingay, Bagumbayan’s most wanted drug personality, resisted arrest and tried to pull the safety lever of a hand grenade he was holding.

Police were quick to open fire on him before he can pull the safety pin.

Police found six sachets of suspected illegal drugs, a hand grenade and several bullets.

Golingay, Supiter said, had voluntarily showed to police station and admitted he was into drug pushing during the implementation of “Oplan Tok-Hang” in Bagumbayan.

He vowed to reform and do away with illegal drugs and illegal activities but police learned he was back to his old business.(PNA)
