MANILA – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) on Thursday reported that 304 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) have received cash assistance worth over PHP3 million.
On a Facebook post, the OWWA said its Region 4-A office announced that as of Wednesday, the beneficiaries availed of the Department of Labor and Employment-Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong (DOLE-AKAP) program amounting to PHP3.040 million.
Of the number, 131 are land-based workers while 173 are sea-based OFWs.
Each assisted Filipino worker received a one-time cash aid of PHP10,000 (USD200).
The DOLE-AKAP program was designed to help displaced land-based and sea-based workers, and returning workers.
Undocumented OFWs who were displaced from their jobs due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic are also covered.
OFWs who are affected by the enhanced community quarantine are advised to file their applications online.
The OWWA and DOLE are continuously evaluating and processing all applications.
Meanwhile, the DOLE Calabarzon reported that a total of 57,739 workers from 1,476 establishments received more than PHP288 million in cash aid.
On a post on its Facebook account, it said that a total of PHP288,695,000.00 was provided to the said number of workers as of Wednesday, under the Covid-19 Adjustment Measure Program (CAMP) of the agency.
The CAMP provides a one-time cash subsidy of PHP5,000.00 to formal sector workers affected by the pandemic.
Meanwhile, a total of 14,279 informal sector workers from 1,435 barangays have benefited from Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD)-Barangay ko, Bahay Ko (BKBK) program by the DOLE.
A total of PHP57.116 million cash assistance was released to pay for the jobs provided by these workers.
Beneficiaries are given temporary jobs for 10 days in their barangays. Their compensation is based on the prevailing minimum wage in the region. (PNA)
