DOLE inducts new career ambassadors

MANILA, June 8 (PNA) -- Fourteen new career ambassadors, who will serve as partners of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in delivering relevant labor market information to the youth, were inducted during the 3rd National Career Advocacy Congress held recently at the Midas Hotel in Pasay City.

“You have to be excited in doing your career advocacy work. What we do will make a big difference in the life of our youth, especially those who are unemployed,” Baldoz told the newly-inducted career ambassadors.

“Career ambassadors actively participate in the implementation of career guidance advocacy program activities; deliver career talks in various events such as career congresses, career guidance week, and convocations; and act as career advocacy speaker in various media platforms such as radio or television,” the DOLE chief said as she reminded the career advocates on their duties and responsibilities.

The two types of career ambassadors who are expected to work in tandem in their respective regions are the technical-vocational education and training (TVET) career ambassadors and the higher education career ambassadors.

The newly-inducted higher education career ambassador, Ariza B. Alvarez, is a licensed teacher and works as an English instructor at Aurora State College of Technology in Baler, Aurora. She was a Commission on Higher Education (CHED) scholar under the One Town, One Scholar Program.

On the other hand, seven of the new TVET ambassadors are from Luzon, two are from the Visayas, and four are from Mindanao.

The TVET career ambassadors from Luzon are:

(1) Reymond E. Ignacio, holder of a TESDA National Certificate II in Automotive Servicing; a TESDA Idol 2015 2nd runner-up for self-employed category; and a repair shop owner and manager in Enrile, Cagayan.

(2) Merryll Lhorvin S. Santos, holder of a TESDA National Certificate II in Animation and Trainers Methodology I; a Tatak TESDA Video Making Contest Year 2 Champion for Individual Category; and serves as a trainor, an assessor, and a registrar at UCA College in Parañaque City.

(3) Hernan C. Erorita, holder of TESDA National Certificates in Bartending, Driving, Housekeeping, Front Office Services, and Trainers Methodology; a TESDA Kabalikat Award 2014 Regional Winner; and works as President of Paradigm Colleges of Science and Technology in Oriental Mindoro since 2005.

(4) Cristina M. Mendoza, holder of TESDA National Certificates in Housekeeping, Commercial Cooking, Bread and Pastry Production, and Trainers Methodology; a TESDA Idol 2015 National Finalist; and serves as Director of Technical-Vocational and Assessment Office of PLT College, Inc. in Nueva Vizcaya.

(5) Jomar D.P. Sabeniano, holder of TESDA National Certificate II in Food and Beverage Services, Events Management, Computer System Servicing, and Electronic Products Assembly and Servicing; a Tatak TESDA 2015 Regional Winner; and is employed as a college instructor at Global I.T. Naga in Camarines Sur.

(6) Marmelo V. Abante, holder of TESDA National Certificate IV in Programming; a TESDA Idol Regional Winner; and serves as the Vice President for Academic Affairs in CJJP in Cainta, Rizal.

(7) Bernadette P. Ramos, a trainer and an assessor in Bartending NC II, Housekeeping NC II, Household Services NC II, Hilot (Wellness Massage) NC II, Massage Therapy NC II, Food and Beverage Services NC II, Food and Beverage NC III, Events Management Services NC III, and Trainers Methodology I; a TESDA Idol 2015 National 1st runner-up for self-employed category; and serves as President and Owner of the Worldwide Economic Empowerment Network (WEEN) College, Inc., in Nueva Ecija.

In addition, the TVET career ambassadors from the Visayas are:

(1) Marites P. Taghap, holder of a TESDA National Certificate II in Computer Hardware Servicing and Computer Programming; a TESDA Idol 2012 Regional Winner; and is employed as Teacher I at La Libertad Elementary School in Bohol.

(2) Ricky Z. Tapal, holder of a TESDA National Certificate II Shielded Metal Arc Welding; a Tatak TESDA 2015 Regional Winner; and works as Instructor I at Hinunangan Skills and Technological Center in Southern Leyte.

From Mindanao, the TVET career ambassadors are:

(1) Roque B. Requino, holder of TESDA National Certificate II/III in Electrical Installation and Maintenance; a Tatak TESDA 2015 Regional Winner; and is employed as an assistant professor at Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology.

(2) Jason Silverio B. Bitong, holder of TESDA National Certificate II in Computer Hardware Servicing; a National Skills Competition 2006 Winner in Electronics Category; a TESDA Idol 2012 National Finalist; and works as an instrumentation technician at Southern Philippines Power Corporation in Sarangani Province.

(3) Ronald S. Sabandal, holder of TESDA National Certificates in Cookery, Commercial Cooking, Food and Beverage Services, Housekeeping, Bartending, Barista, and Events Management; a TESDA Idol 2015 Regional Winner; and works as an Assessment Center Manager at DMMA College of Southern Philippines in Davao del Sur. v(4) Celso O. Pobadora Jr., holder of TESDA National Certificate II in Automotive Servicing and Shielded Metal Arc Welding; representative of the school that won the institutional category in Tatak TESDA Video Making Contest in 2015; and is employed as shop worker and assistant trainer at Westmin Institute of Technology Inc. in Zamboanga Sibugay.

“We have guidance counselors in our schools. At the same time, we have career ambassadors who promote the same advocacy in various venues,” the DOLE Secretary said.

“The Career Guidance Advocacy Program–Working Group (CGAP-WG) is steadfast in our commitment to address job-skills mismatch through the conduct of collaborative activities. I urge you to continue endorsing career ambassadors from your own provinces, from your own regions; and let us saturate the Philippines with career advocates,” she added.

The Career Ambassadors Program is one of the activities enrolled by the Career Guidance Advocacy Program–Working Group (CGAP-WG) to address the problem of job-skills mismatch.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) serve as the focal agencies for the said program. (PNA)
