TACLOBAN CITY – The region’s 7th coronavirus patient in Eastern Visayas is a 25-year-old female from Burauen, Leyte, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed on Friday.
DOH Eastern Visayas director Minerva Molon said she is a niece of Leyte province’s 1st Covid-19 patient, who shared the same house here in Balao village. This is the 2nd case in Leyte province and considered as locally-acquired illness.
On April 18, the patient manifested symptoms of cough and sore throat. The next day swab sample was taken from her for testing.
Molon said the patient has been on self-quarantine at the town's isolation facility since she was identified as close contact with a confirmed patient.
“Presently, she is experiencing mild respiratory symptoms. She will now be transferred to the Burauen district hospital for further management and observation,” Molon said in a virtual press conference.
The DOH has immediately deployed a team to assure that infection control based on the specifications of an isolation facility is strictly followed at the local government-run hospital.
“The patient has no existing medical conditions or illnesses compared to our previous cases that is why she will be admitted to a level one hospital. If her condition worsens, we will transfer her to the referral hospital here,” Molon said.
Since the global outbreak, a total of seven Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Eastern Visayas, of whom four already recovered, the DOH said.
Other areas reported coronavirus cases are in Catarman, Northern Samar; Calbayog City, Samar; and Tarangnan, Samar. (PNA)
