The Manila South Harbor Veterinary Quarantine Service (VQS) confiscated several bags of dog food from a shipment that arrived recently at the Port of Manila from China together with other non-agricultural products.
Upon verification the animal feeds were found to have no Veterinary Quarantine Clearance from the Bureau of Animal Industry. Said products were also not registered at BAI-Animal Feed Standard Division.
Out of the 60 bags confiscated items, a total of 24bags (480 kgs) were turned-over to the Veterinary Quarantine Service-South Harbor Manila Officer-in-Charge Dr. Enrico Miguel L. Capulong, and in turn to the Property Division of the Bureau of Animal Industry for proper disposal.
The Bureau of Animal Industry Director Efren C. Nuestro pointed out that although said items were declared for personal use, the importer must adhere to the guidelines on proper registration/accreditation procedures and to ensure that only quality products would reach the domestic market.
In a separate incidence, at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport at Clarkfield, Pampanga, duck meat weighing 15 kgs. was confiscated by Veterinary Quarantine Officer Dr. Ferdinand D. Montano. - source: PIA
