GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Police anti-drug operatives arrested a dismissed public school teacher and his cohort in a buy-bust operation in Koronadal City on Monday night.
Chief Insp. Jomero Sentinta, deputy chief of the Koronadal City police station, identified the suspects as former high school teacher Cyrus Calixtro of Barangay Zone II and Winston Rivera of Barangays Avancena in Koronadal City.
He said the suspects were arrested at around 8:30 p.m. Monday at a portion of Block 4, Marville Homes in Barangay Sto.Niño after allegedly sold a sachet of suspected metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P500 to a police officer who posed as a buyer.
The operation was led by elements of the Koronadal City police station’s drug enforcement unit and the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council.
Recovered from the suspects were another large pack of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P6,000 and a P500 marked bill used in the buy-bust.
The 31 year-old Calixtro was a former teacher of the Home Economics department of the Koronadal National Comprehensive High School in Koronadal City.
Sources at the school said the suspect, who had a history of excessive unauthorized absences and tardiness, went on absence without official leave or Awol since last year.
He was recommended by the school earlier this year to be dropped from its rolls and was officially terminated from service last month.
Sentinta said they had long been monitoring the movements of Calixtro and Rivera, who were included in the city’ drug watch list.
He said they were able to confirm their involvement in the illegal drug trade following a “positive test-buy.”
“They were known for their notorious illegal activities in the barangay so we targeted them for operation,” he said.
The police official said they sent the recovered evidences to the South Cotabato Scene of the Crime Operatives or Soco crime laboratory in Koronadal City for proper examination and valuation.
The suspects, who are currently detained at the Koronadal City police station lock up, would be charged with violation of Sections 5 and 11 or selling and possession of dangerous drugs, under Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002. (PNA)
