CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is providing assistance to Local Government Units (LGUs) in establishing evacuation centers as part of its program strengthening disaster preparedness.
DILG-Isabela Director Elpidio Durwin said that through the then Bottom Up Budgeting (BUB) program, now renamed Assistance to Municipalities, at least six LGUs in Isabela were provided funding assistance for the construction of evacuation centers.
Durwin said the municipalities of Quezon, Angadanan and several other municipalities were given funding assistance for the project. He said more LGUs would be funded soon in order to construct their own evacuation centers.
Aside from the DILG-funded evacuation centers, two evacuation centers have been completed, three are still ongoing construction at the capitol compound and Dinapigue town. The construction of three more evacuation centers are ongoing at the coastal towns of Maconacon, Divilacan, and Palanan.
The three are expected to be completed within the end of the year, according to the Provincial Engineering Office. Provincial Engineer Virgilio Lorenzo said the provincial-funded evacuation centers are equipped with water system and generators and are typhoon-proof. (PNA)
