MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) is working on a longer loan term for the benefit of public school teachers who borrowed money from government and private lending institutions.
During the Laging Handa public hearing on Tuesday, DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said the department was processing a loan moratorium so that loan payments from teachers' salaries would not be remitted at this time when the nation continues to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
"Hindi sila mag-aalala na kailangan bayaran agad dahil kami na po ang mag-a-adjust. Kung ang inyo pong loan ay naka-encode sa aming salary and payroll database, nakausap na po namin lahat ng private at government lending institutions na naka-a-accredit sa aming database (They [teachers] don't have to worry that they have to pay immediately because we will do the adjustments. If your loan is encoded in our salary and payroll database, we have talked to all private and government and lending institutions accredited in our database)," Sevilla said.
The DepEd has released in advance the salaries of more than 800,000 public school teachers for March and April.
"'Yung May, processing na rin ngayon. 'Yung clothing allowance na PHP6,000 per employee ay nakuha na rin ng lahat ng ating mga empleyado. Amin na rin pong inaasikaso ang kanilang performance-based bonus at may mga region na rin po na nakatanggap dito at ang 13th month pay ay atin na pong pino-proseso at ready to release by May 15 (The May salary is being processed. All our employees have received the PHP6,000 clothing allowance per employee and we're now processing their performance-based bonus and some regions have received this. We’re also processing the 13th month pay so it would be ready to be released by May 15)," Sevilla said. (PNA)
