SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The regional office of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Western Visayas has approved the use of schools as isolation facilities in five municipalities of Antique.
DepEd Antique Schools Superintendent Felisa Beriong said in an interview Thursday that the requests of mayors from the towns of Hamtic, Tibiao, Sibalom, Libertad and San Jose de Buenavista have been approved by their regional office.
“The local government unit (LGU) will have to sign a document agreeing on the terms and conditions set by DepEd such as they will manage the facility, maintain its cleanliness and pay the electricity bill,” she said.
The LGU will also provide security and food for its constituents under quarantine.
Beriong said there are seven additional towns that requested for the use of schools as isolation facilities as of Thursday.
They are also waiting for the six other municipalities to submit their requests to the DepEd. Antique has 18 municipalities.
The letter should come with an accompanying certification from the Municipal Health Office (MHO) that the school has the necessary water system and toilet to be used by those undergoing quarantine.
Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao in a meeting with mayors of the province on Wednesday has instructed local chief executives to identify a school that will be used as an isolation facility. It will be in preparation for the influx of their constituents coming home on May 1 when the moderate community quarantine (MCQ) is implemented.
Cadiao said Antiqueños from outside of the province will be allowed to come home during the MCQ. However, since they will come from various places in the country, mostly from Manila where there are coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) confirmed cases, then they would have to be transported directly to the patient care centers for their quarantine.
