BACOLOD CITY -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Negros Occidental launched Sunday its radio program “EnviroSerye.”
The show, aired every first and third Sunday of the month from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. over Bombo Radyo Bacolod, is hosted by Ma. Theresa Robles and Keith Brandon Cari-an of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in Negros Occidental.
During the pilot episode, PENRO chief Edgardo Rostata talked about the jurisdiction of the DENR field office and its responsibilities.
The "EnviroSerye" was launched in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act 9512, declaring November as the National Environmental Awareness Month.
According to PENRO-Negros Occidental, listeners will be updated of its projects, programs, and initiatives, and those of its field offices in the cities of Cadiz, Bago and Kabankalan.
Environment-related matters and activities which can be participated by the community will also be discussed, it added.
The "EnviroSerye" will also involve partner agencies, local government units, and people’s organizations in presenting their success stories and partnerships with the DENR.
The succeeding episodes will also be aired live through the "EnviroSerye’s" Facebook page, the PENRO added.
The hosts also discussed during its pilot show the unveiling of Ramsar Site marker for the Negros Occidental Coastal Wetlands Conservation Area (NOCWCA) in Kabankalan City last October 28.
The event organized by the PENRO also launched the six-year management plan of NOCWCA, which has a continuous coastline of 109.52 kilometers located in southern Negros.
During the rites, Llewellyn Young, senior advisor for Asia and Oceania of Ramsar, who joined DENR officials during the unveiling rites, urged members of the NOCWCA Management Alliance (NOCWCAMA) to ensure both the locals and the environment are benefitting from the site. (PNA)
