An overseas Filipino worker who was imprisoned for accidentally killing a fellow worker in Riyadh has arrived in Manila.
Ricky Cebanico, 39 years old, married and a resident of Morong in Rizal province, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on board a Saudi Airlines flight SV 872 from Riyadh Monday.
Cebanico served three years at the Malaz Jail despite being sentenced for only one year.
Cebanico, a machine operator at the Yamama Red Brick factory, was jailed for accidentally killing fellow OFW identified as Emiliano Aviles on Nov. 13, 2004.
It was learned that Cebanico accidentally turned on a machine at the worksite. The victim was cleaning the machine from the inside at that time.
Cebanico was freed after his insurance company paid 74,000 Saudi riyals or P750,000 in blood money to the victim’s family.
He said no one from the Philippine government helped him while his case was being heard up to the time he was sentenced. With reports from Raoul Esperas and Dindo Amparo, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau
