A MAN believed to have been dead and buried showed up at his half-brother’s doorstep yesterday morning in barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu City.
Mario Tormis and his neighbors were surprised to see Ricky Espinosa, 28, alive and well. They thought the charred remains of a man found March 19 was his.
“Nagsagol gyod akong gibati – nahadlok, nasurprisa ug nalipay sa dihang akong nakit-an akong igsoon (I had mixed feelings – I was scared, surprised and happy when I saw my brother),†Tormis said.
On March 19, the partially burned body of a man was found in barangay Maghaway, Talisay City. Tormis’ parents believed this to be Espinosa, who has been missing since November.
They said they recognized his clothing and some features. They claimed the body on March 27 and held a burial on April 1 in the Labangon cemetery.
Espinosa said he has been to several places since he left last November, reaching as far as the town of Daanbantayan and Bogo City in northern Cebu.
He said he could not tell his family of his whereabouts because he did not have a cellular phone.
Since Espinosa is alive, the identity of the man buried in the cemetery remains a puzzle.
