DAVAO CITY -- The 22-member delegation, composed of city government officials and the private sector, brings the “Life is Here” brand of Davao during its five-day tourism and investment roadshow in four major cities in Japan.
Led by the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) and City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), the Davao delegation is on a five-day tourism and Investment Roadshow in Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo, and Yokohama on October 16-20 aimed at enhancing linkage and partnership with investment, trade, and tourism marketing in Japan.
Japan has been a strong partner of Davao in history. Davao City's barangay Mintal was known as the "The Little Tokyo" being the settlement of many Japanese during the World War 11.
Up to this time, Japanese descendants still visit Davao City on a "Sentimental Journey" to visit the graves of their loved ones every September.
Chief Information Officer Jefry Tupas said this year’s roadshow is to promote Davao City as the preferred tourism and investment destination in the Asia Pacific region.
Tupas said the delegation is happy for the warm reception from the meetings.
From these meetings with Osaka officials and the business community, Tupas said there are already commitments to help promote Davao City and hopefully translate these to actual visits and investments in Davao.
Tupas said the delegation also met with the officials of the Osaka City Government International Relations Department, Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and various tourism associations, tour operators, and travel agencies in Osaka City.
The Osaka City Government facilitated the visit of the Davao delegation to the Osaka Central Wholesale Market Honjo to provide the group information on the goods that are in demand in Osaka.
Tupas said the Osaka officials also had a glimpse of Davao City’s tourism products with the presentation of the City Tourism Operations Office.
Aside from Tupas, the Davao delegation is composed of DCIPC Chief Lemuel Ortonio, Councilor Jimmy Dureza, City Administrator Zuleika Lopez, Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre and Tourism Officer Generose Tecson, and the representatives from the private sector like Damosa Land Inc., Yovel Agri Enterprise and Yovel East Research and Development Inc., Bloomers Travel and Tours and Bloomers Marketing, Eden Nature Park and Resort, Gasera Corporation, Waterfront Insular Hotel, and Ana’s Breeders Farms.
